Describe yourself in three words:
Lazy, hard-working, maternal.
What did you want to be growing up?
A marine biologist or an art historian.
Who inspires you?
My children.
Tell us a secret about yourself?
I have a nap every single day.
If you were stranded on a desert island, who would you most like to be stranded with (dead or alive)?
My husband (and we'd squeeze the three children into a rucksack).
Where in the world do you feel happiest and why?
I feel happiest in my home. I love pottering about, chatting to my family, baking inedible cakes and cuddling the small people.
What do you like to do when you're not at work?
Sleep, read, watch movies, plan holidays, eat sushi, chat with girlfriends, go to the theatre.
If you could sit next to anyone on a plane who would it be and why?
Um, you hate me right? Husband or the kids. I'm allergic to famous people. Although if I had to pick someone I think Leonardo da Vinci would be a good bet.
During your career as a travel writer where has been the most unique destination you have visited?
I think it would have to be Portofino. I can still remember every single thing about it (often a good sign), I can smell the sea, see the view, taste the extraordinary food. If I could only go to one place for the rest of my life it would be there. It is frozen in time without being twee. Amazing...
Where is your favourite holiday hotspot?
Almost all of Italy is worth revisiting. Venice, Rome, Bologna, Sienna, the Amalfi Coast. Anywhere in Italy. I love the atmosphere, the food, the art and the women.
Name three items you wouldn't travel without:
A book, sun-cream, black eye liner.
Claudia Winkleman needed a break, and she found it with Carrier at Carlisle Bay in Antigua..."No decisions, no hassle, no stress. Carlisle Bay might be the most relaxing holiday we've ever had. The only decision you will have to make is to book it."
